SUNDIAL DESIGNS is a maker of individually designed sundials. I design and make
a broad variety of sundials, from horizontal sundials to vertical sundials or
wall sundials through to sculpture-like sundials, while constantly exploring
new ideas.
On most of them I use the summer solstice and winter solstice as a frame to
create a characteristic shape, but a shape that has a scientific explanation.
Surprisingly, sundials in Australia are quite rare, considering that it is one
of the sunniest places on earth; it somehow seems to be a wasted opportunity.
As a sundial maker, I hope to change this situation.
As a philosophy at SUNDIAL DESIGNS, I can appreciate that you may already have
an intimate understanding of the workings of sundials. However, my aim in all
of my designs is for the uninitiated observer to not feel intimidated by the
sundial’s appearance, regardless of how much information other than the time of
day can be extracted from its design.
